CHAI CHALLENGE #2 – STOVETOP

Aaannd we’re back with ‘Chai Challenge’ contestant number 2 – Stovetop in Carlton.

I’ve visited the cafe for breakfast and lunch numerous times (they do a great sandwich) but it’s the chai I keep coming back for.

MEXI-EASTER: LA CHOLITA

I love food traditions. Whether it’s that cafe you always visit with the same friend, hot cross buns at Easter or lazy family nights with burgers and wine.

I spent Easter back home in Perth indulging in all my favourite food traditions and eating my weight in chocolate (I hope you did too).

One of my closest friends had also returned home from Brisbane so we met up for a reunion dinner at our ‘usual’ – La Cholita in Northbridge.

EASTER BAKE OFF: FLOUR MARKET

If there’s one thing I like more than a dance-off, it’s a bake-off.

After spending Saturday night in several dance-offs, there was no way I was missing the carb delights of Flour Market Easter Bake Sale.

BRUNCH STAGGER: STAGGER LEE’S

I love brunch. I love brunch even more when suffering from a vodka-fuelled hangover. (See last post)

Seeking eggs, oil and carbs my friend and I staggered to the newest addition to Brunswick street’s brunch scene: Stagger Lee’s.

No more stagger puns. Apologies.

FIRE IN YOUR BELLY : FIRE DRUM VODKA POP-UP BAR

I’m not really much of a vodka drinker (unless I’m at Borsch, Vodka and Tears). After too many misspent evenings as a teen fueled by vodka (not underage… promise) I struggle to associate it with anything but Smirnoff double blacks and vodka-diet coke mixes.

But after a particularly long week Fire Drum Vodka’s Pop Up Bar sounded like the ideal way to spend a Friday night.

NOT YOUR GRANDFATHER’S ATTIC

Sometimes I write for other websites about Melbourne.
The Attic originally appeared on Weekend Notes: Melbourne: www.weekendnotes.com/the-attic-bar/

Melbourne would have to be one of the few cities where it’s easy to wander into a bar and accidentally end up in another one entirely. Not that anyone’s complaining if the other bar is as good as The Attic.

A planned visit to The Black Pearl on Brunswick Street and a curious climb up the back stairs led us into The Attic, the more subdued sister to its popular sibling downstairs.

WHAT A GREAT OCEAN ROAD

If you’re in Melbourne for longer than a weekend you really shouldn’t miss venturing out to the Great Ocean Road.

It’s a 2-3 hour drive from the CBD to reach the road’s most famous sites –  Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge.

We chose a gorgeously warm and sunny autumn day to head down the coast. There are countless tours that will take you along the Great Ocean Road but it’s easy enough to hire a car, grab a map and do it yourself.

ROMANCE & MYSTERY AT THE ALCHEMIST COCKTAIL BAR

Whenever I have visitors in town there’s a couple of usual spots I take them to show off some of the best food and drink Melbourne has to offer.

The Alchemist Bar is one of my most beloved bars in the city and one of the first watering holes I take all my inter-state visitors. The boyfriend took me there for our first date (aw) where I not only fell for his charms (ha!) but also the charms of this self-described ‘romantic’ cocktail bar.
